After a wet weekend of practice pieces, warm up racing and gearing up, the internationals teams are making their way to town.
The famed Peter Antonie got off a plane from Melbourne, Australia, Saturday night and met his Melbourne University Boat Club crew. He raced the 3.5 miles of the drenched Head of the Connecticut on Sunday afternoon. After racing he said, "that was a three and half mile kick in the pants… I’ll be right by Saturday." Peter is a recent recipient of the Thomas Keller medal for an outstanding career and contribution to rowing, competed at three Olympic Games, won an Olympic gold medal, has World Championship medals in both lightweight and open weight boat classes and an international career lasting 23 years.
Rumyana Neykova, 2003 World Champion, 2000 Olympic Silver medallist single sculler from Bulgaria arrives tomorrow evening, and the Canadian National Team 8 and 4 arrive Thursday night.
Tents are going up.
